First Nations & Renewable Energy DevelopmentBarkley Project Group specializes in providing technical and management capacity to First Nations who are developing renewable energy opportunities within their traditional territories. In addition to our professional skills, the success of our relationships is based on respectfulness, efficiency and a shared vision of a more sustainable future. Successful renewable resource project development starts with a Nation’s vision to enter into the ‘Green Economy’, whereby economic and societal benefits can be derived from natural resources without depleting or degrading them. Implementing this vision requires a sound business plan, something that Barkley Group is experienced in preparing. An important first step is to ensure that projects are economically viable and can be permitted. Barkley Group can efficiently compile an inventory of all renewable energy project opportunities throughout a traditional territory. This information allows different opportunities to be ranked in terms of energy production and development costs, and is used to guide business planning. Barkley Project Group also assists First Nations in project finance planning. This includes identifying the various government funding sources available to support renewable energy development projects. These programs provide incentives and support for economic development, action on climate change and alternative energy for non-integrated areas not connected to the regional electrical transmission grid. |
